This ski touring binding is the only lightweight pin Tech binding on the market which features a lateral toe release (the boot toe can release sideways in a fall) making this the safest lightweight pin binding out there.
The Vipec 12 combines excellent ski performance with full adjustable safety release at the heel and toe without a serious weight penalty. They allow the ski to flex un hindered and still releases even when the ski is heavily flexed or when the toe is locked into skinning function, making this the safest Tech Binding to date.
The Vipec 12 Black was launched last season as an improved version of the first generation white bindings.
Fritschi separated the release value adjustment on the toe piece from the mechanism which governs how wide the pins open when in step in mode, meaning that the binding remains easy to step into even when using high release settings. This alongside a new trigger and step in guides and to make getting into the binding easier. With strengthened front pins and wings, a new forward release clip and a locking clip to prevent the adjustable pin from working loose, all combine to make the Vipec 12 Black an excellent choice for ski tourers wanting lightweight performance without sacrificing safety.
At a mere 540 grams per binding (470 grams without the brakes) and featuring brakes, 3 stage climbing positions and the ability to switch between ski and skin functions without removing the boot from the binding the Vipec 12 has a lot to offer. Designed with a wide mounting pattern and base platform and having done away with the rotating heel piece to improve lateral power transmission the Vipec 12 works well with modern wider touring skis.
