Superb Quality, Lightweight, Rockered Touring Ski For The Most Demanding Ski Adventures

The Volkl BMT 90 have a serious fan base out there for good reason.

With a top end construction and superb shaping these 90mm touring weapons are solid on the ascents and delightful in descent.

In the style of some of Volkls other shapings, the BMt are stiff but fairly flat under foot with long tip and tail rockers giving the best of surfy power joy, turn on sixpence agility and excellent edge hold when you need it most.

A modern touring tool which is guaranteed to bring smilles.

Please note that due to the Volkl H mounting pattern the BMT 90 are best mounted with marker bindings such as the king pin and the Alpinist.

The Bindings:

Powerful Pin Tech touring binding with unique heel piece design making this a good choice for wider skis and more aggressive skiers. Heel release adjustable up to DIN 13.
  • Weight: 1.46 Kgs (pair with brakes)
  • DIN Range: 6 - 13 heel only
  • Available brake widths: 100mm and 125mm
  • Ski Crampons: 2 widths available 90mm, 105mm and 120mm
Marker's entry to the Pin Tech world is aimed not at the fast and light mountaineers out there but more towards freeriders and ski tourers who want solid ski performance and the ability to drive wider skis.

At almost 1.5Kgs, the Kingpin 13 is a good bit heavier than some of its rival pin tech bindings but think of this binding as a lightweight alternative to a Freeride binding such as the Guardian or the Baron and the Kingpin 13 will still save you over a Kilo.

Marker have designed a heel piece that doesn't use the pin fittings of the boot, it is more like a traditional alpine binding fixing and this means that the boot is held down to the ski deck firmly giving better power transfer than the original pin binding attachment system. They have also used an extra pair of springs in the toe piece to combat pre release and loss of power transfer at the toe.

The Marker Kingpin 13 has an adjustable release setting at the heel with a range from 6 to 13, they do not feature a lateral toe release like the Vipec 12 or any alpine or frame type binding so it is important to note that the Kingpin 13, like the Dynafit bindings are only suitable for good, experienced skiers and are not a good choice for people that may be having regular falls when skiing difficult conditions, particularly low speed falls.

Having said that, if you want a powerful, lightweight binding for touring on wider skis or for skiing hard the Kingpin 13 would make a good choice.

With all the features you would expect from a touring binding such as, climbing positions, toe piece 'release lock out' whilst skinning & ski crampon availability the Marker Kingpin does have a place in the modern line up of lightweight bindings.
